Report from Foundation for Life
April - June 2010
The following is a report of what has been done from April to June 2010
1. Project to Develop Youth Core Leader
On 29 to 30 April, the group of 40 youths from Bangkok and the neighbouring provinces gathered for an additional training to practice self-discipline, attend Workshops on “Life-skills in Relationships with the opposite sex for Youths and having Healthy Attitudes toward sex before marriage”. Besides that, these young leaders were given the opportunity of learning new skills by Staff of the Nong Bon Water Sports Centre, Bangkok. They now have a wider choice in the use of their free time to better their new-found skills in kayaking, sailing and wind-surfing.
2. Training for Volunteers to start Activity Centres to “Mould the Next generation”
The Foundation trained volunteers who were interested in the developmental work for children and youths, especially in various age-groups, in teambuilding, personality profiles, song and game leading etc. Altogether, 37 trainees attended the training from 9 – 10 May, and they were given the opportunity to practice in groups as well. Those who attended came from Chonburi, Chiangrai, Suphanburi, Radtchburi and Bangkok.
3. Training to run activities to develop Hill Tribe youths
As the schools on the hilly regions are limited in number and upper secondary levels are even less, so the hill tribe students have to travel to the towns for their higher level education. Due to the vast distance from their homes to school, these students have to stay at the boarding schools and they only get to visit their homes during longer school holidays. The Foundation thus trained 27 dormitory-persons-in-charge, as well as youths from about 12 tribal groups from the Saharsart School, Chiangrai on the 19 th June, so that they would be able to run wholistic activites (that develop them physically, intellectually, spiritually and socially) for the tribal residents in the boarding homes every Saturday.
4. Centres for “Moulding the NeXt Generation”
About 18 activity centers started to meet with children and youths for wholistic development at the various locations, so that they may mature physically, intellectually, spiritually and socially.
5. Visitation and Follow Up Work
Staffs and volunteers visited various activity centres in the provinces like Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Phisanuloke, Ratchaburi, Chonburi, Suphanburi and the communities in Bangkok and were able to dialogue with the children, youths and volunteers to encourage each other, share experiences, give short but practical trainings. The youths exchanged ideas and we saw changes in their lives as well as that of their families.
In Thailand, where lately, has been a great need to dialogue so that there will be national unity, it is imperative for the young ones to be trained and developed socially, so as to achieve a sustainable future for all in the country.
The Foundation is grateful to all who have had a part to support and encourage us to this end. May the God’s blessings be upon you, your families and your careers.
